- Research Data Stewardship series: Introduction to Research Data Management
March 6, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
What is data management and why does it matter? This workshop will introduce participants to the core concepts of “data stewardship” and the major components of data management across the research lifecycle. Participants should come away from this introductory session appreciating the scope of what data stewardship entails, feeling confident in how best to proceed through the research lifecycle, and knowing that they can ask PRDS for guidance at any time. The Research Data Stewardship series consists of five lectures digging into the phases of the data lifecycle. Sign up for each individual session you are interested in! All sessions will be recorded and available in Media Central.
- Research Data Stewardship series: Data Organization
March 20, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Do you struggle with organizing your research project, data, and files? Better data organization can save you time, prevent future errors, and help reduce data duplication. This workshop will cover practical techniques for organizing your data files, including strategies for file naming, stable data formats, and file and folder organizational structures. The Research Data Stewardship series consists of five lectures digging into the phases of the data lifecycle. Sign up for each individual session you are interested in! All sessions will be recorded and available in Media Central.
- Data Stewardship Help Session
March 27, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:30 amLocation: Firestone Library - B-6-H, Firestone Library
Feeling confused or overwhelmed by what you have learned about Data Stewardship? Want to co-work on your data management tasks with others? Come by this Data Stewardship Help Session to get connected to resources, ask questions about strategies you might be considering, find materials to support your data management, and meet others who are working on managing their data too. In this session, you will be reminded of the asynchronous materials introduced as part of the Data Stewardship Series, and get a chance to co-work with other members of the campus community as they tackle their own data management challenges. Ask questions of data management specialists, stay for the whole time or just drop in when you can. This help session is part of the Research Data Stewardship series, consisting of five lectures which dig into the phases of the data lifecycle. Sign up for each individual session you are interested in! All sessions will be recorded and available in Media Central.
- Research Data Stewardship series: Documentation and Metadata
April 3, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Have you ever returned to a research project at a later date and can’t seem to remember certain details that would allow you to reuse or replicate your own data? Need others to understand and use your data? Data documentation and metadata are practices you can put into place to help others, including future you! This workshop will cover the fundamentals of data documentation (including standardized metadata), explain the principles behind the recommended practices, and prepare you to streamline your own processes of data documentation. The Research Data Stewardship series consists of five lectures digging into the phases of the data lifecycle. Sign up for each individual session you are interested in! All sessions will be recorded and available in Media Central.
- Research Data Stewardship series: Data Storage and Security
April 17, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Have you safeguarded your research data against potential data loss? This workshop will give participants an overview of data storage options available at Princeton and detail the logistics of using each option, which is best suited for their data and research needs. Participants will learn the recommended practices for backing up their data, how to maintain data integrity, and how to keep their data secure.
